Ingredients
- Beef : 1 kg
- Red Onion (big) : 1/2
- Curry leaves : # 6
- Oil : 2 table spoons
- Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
- Chilly powder : 1 tea spoon
- Ground black pepper : 1 tea spoon
- Garlic powder : 1/2 tea spoon
- Ginger powder : 1/2 tea spoon
- Coriander powder : 3 table spoons
- Garam/Meat masala : 2 tea spoons
- Salt : to taste
- Coriander leaves : for garnishing
Method
- Cut beef into small cubes.
- Make ingredients 5-12 into a paste with a small amount of water.
- Marinate the beef cubes with the above paste for ~3 hours.
- Cut onion into small slices.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker (preferably, one w/ a non-stick coating).
- Saute onion slices and curry leaves until golden-brown.
- Add marinated beef cubes to the above mix. Add 500 ml water and pressure cook for 20 minutes.
- If water remains after the beef is completely cooked, continue cooking on a low flame, w/ the cooker open, until the beef is completely fried.
- Garnish w/ coriander leaves, if desired.
Tip
I usually use chuck stew cuts for beef fry. I’ve also used sirloin steak cuts in the past for frying. But, I think the chuck cut comes better when fried. The brand, I used 4 the fry in the picture is Sutton & Dodge, from Target.
